Postpartum depletion
Postpartum is often framed as “baby bliss”, but for many women it feels more like deep depletion—exhaustion, brain fog, low mood, hair changes, feeling “not quite yourself”. Pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and sleep loss all draw heavily on your nutrient stores and nervous system. Partners can also become depleted in their own way, especially with disrupted sleep and increased stress.
Nutritionally, we’re looking at rebuilding protein, minerals (iron, zinc, magnesium), omega‑3s and B vitamins through warm, easy‑to‑digest meals. Herbal medicine may gently support mood, sleep, milk supply, digestion or recovery, but again, the right herbs depend on your unique picture and any medications.
Lifestyle medicine in this season is about realistic, compassionate support: rest where possible, nervous system regulation, boundaries, and accepting help.
These ideas can help you understand why you feel the way you do—and that it’s not a personal failing. But they’re still broad. If you’re feeling persistently depleted, a tailored plan can help you rebuild in a way that honours your body, your responsibilities and your goals, rather than asking you to “bounce back”.
